The Hope Residence Writers' Group invited staff, volunteers and clients to participate in a Village-wide Poetry Project to celebrate National Poetry Month. The Poetry Project is a collaboration between Eva's Employment Specialist Judith Pasko (above) and the Writers' Group, established in the fall of 2018. Group members are mothers enrolled in Eva's Mommy & Me Program, where they live with and care for their children while they work to recover from addiction. The group decorated and distributed poetry boxes around Eva's Village in April 2019 to collect submissions. On April 26, the Group hosted the first in a series of Open Mic Nights. The evening event featured poets, rappers, musicians, and storytellers who performed for nearly 60 guests.

Life is a puzzle
Sometimes it's tough Sometime's it's simple Sometimes you find your way, Sometimes you simply lose your say, But, everything left per say The puzzle has to be solved, Everyone has to play There is not a Rule book Or a guide A day Life is truly A puzzle per say! Ebony J., Kitchen Cook |
To Reach for the stars is to believe in the star that you are.
To explore is like being the wave that crashes ashore. To believe is to be wide awake when you dream. To understand is to have a Plan, To achieve is to read. To glow is to grow, To Pass the test is to do your best! To become a champion is to remain standing. To understand what you are is to understand who you are. To be kind is to bless one another, Yes, love one another. To fly is to soar, it begins with discipline, don't stop listening. To have unity begins in the community. To be a friend is to encourage to the end. To live a wealthy life is to live a healthy life. To visualize is to see with your spiritual eyes. . . . . I wrote this Poem knowing that you are already awesome! Only a wizard like you can solve today's Problems! Good-luck & May the force be with you Justin R. |
