Community Gathers to Support Recovery
A colorful crowd paraded through Paterson, chanting “We do Recover! Never Lose Hope!” on a sunny Saturday in September. Nearly 1,000 marchers gathered in Paterson’s Courthouse Square for speeches and awards to kick off Passaic County’s 9th Annual Recovery Walk, one of thousands held across the country to commemorate National Recovery Month. A team of peer leaders from Eva’s Village Recovery Community Center led the crowd to Eastside Park, where marchers celebrated with food, fun, and fellowship. This year’s theme, 'Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Are Stronger,' was echoed in speeches by local, state, and county elected officials and was reflected in participants' journeys–some with decades of sobriety; others just taking first steps towards recovery - and in the stories of friends and family who support them. Two graduates of Eva’s recovery treatment programs shared their experiences with addiction recovery with the crowd.
